Irati Forest

About 20 kilometers by car from Aurizberri-Espinal you will find one of the largest beech and fir forests in all of Europe. A unique experience that you cannot miss.

In the center of the eastern Pyrenees, lies the Selva de Irati, the king forest of Navarra, inside which lies the Irabia reservoir.

The best way to enter the forest is by following one of the trails that cross the Irati Forest.

Roncesvalles Orreaga

The historic defeat of Charlemagne and the Song of Roldan have made this small town famous. It is also the gateway to the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

Hidden between mountains, Roncesvalles has been a shelter for walkers and a meeting of cultures. In it, the Collegiate Church of Santa María stands out due to its monumental complex, a former pilgrims' hospital where the remains of King Sancho VII the Strong rest.

An excellent example of medieval architecture that we advise you to know through a guided tour.

Obraizeta weapons factory and Arpea cave

About 20 km from our hostel, in the Aezkoa valley, there are the ruins of the Orbaizeta Royal Arms and Ammunition Factory.

Today, the ruins have been eaten up by vegetation and hidden under a green blanket of moss. Its enigmatic air and being an important example of 18th century industrial archeology has earned it the declaration of Asset of Cultural Interest.

Following the road that has taken us to the Royal Weapons Factory, we will find spectacular green slopes that hide the Arpea Cave, an essential visit for nature lovers.

Eugui: Fifth real

Eugui is an old and charming town located in an unbeatable environment, on the edge of the Eugui reservoir and surrounded by mountains.

A few kilometers from the town, next to the border between Navarra and France, an extensive beech forest is preserved that receives the name of Quinto Real.

The Arga River runs through this beautiful and extensive area, which hides some unique corners such as the Royal Eugui Arms Factory. The forest also stands out for hosting a good number of interesting animal species, such as deer, roe deer or griffon vultures.

Sorogain

It is an enclave where time seems to have stopped. An extensive green carpet surrounded by beech, oak and mountains, crowned in the background by Mount Adi, which with its 1,459 meters of altitude watches over the forests, meadows and the river, drawing an unforgettable landscape. The Erro river is born in Sorogain, which crosses the valley to which it gives its name and runs for more than 40 kilometers before flowing into the Irati.

This small town offers an incomparable environment to discover through different routes that lead us to its beech forest, its megalithic monuments and Adi himself.

Zugarramurdi

Most of the visitors that Zugarramurdi receives each year are attracted by the stories and legends that emerged about witchcraft around the inquisitorial process of 1610.

There are documents that prove the experiences of similar episodes in at least 64 other towns in Navarra. Although it is true that Zugarramurdi, due to the social dimension that Auto de Fe had at the European level, has earned the popular nickname "Town of Witches."
